KUALA LUMPUR: Bagi menghormati bekas presidennya Tun Dr Lim Keng Yaik yang meninggal dunia bulan lepas, parti Gerakan peringkat kebangsaan tidak akan mengadakan sambutan Tahun Baharu Cina di Dewan Wawasan di Menara PGRM di sini seperti tahun-tahun sebelumnya.

Presidennya Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon berkata keputusan itu diambil berikutan penukaran nama dewan berkenaan kepada Dewan Wawasan Tun Dr Lim Keng Yaik.

"Berikutan penukaran nama itu dan sejajar dengan tradisi orang Cina, parti membuat keputusan untuk tidak mengadakan sambutan Tahun Baharu Cina di dewan itu tahun ini bagi menzahirkan rasa sedih dan terima kasih kami (kepada Lim)," katanya kepada pemberita pada majlis 'A Tribute to Tun Dr Lim Keng Yaik: The Legacy of a True Malaysian' di sini hari Ahad.

Balu Lim, Toh Puan Wong Yoon Chuan, membuka tirai plak bertulis 'Dewan Wawasan Tun Dr Lim Keng Yaik' pada majlis itu.

Koh bagaimanapun berkata Gerakan peringkat negeri tidak dilarang daripada menganjurkan majlis perjumpaan Tahun Baharu Cina.

"Mereka boleh adakan perjumpaan Tahun Baharu Cina...bukan sebagai acara sambutan, tetapi sebagai perjumpaan untuk anggota parti," katanya.

Sementara itu, Koh berkata Gerakan dan Wawasan Open University (WOU) akan menerbitkan dua buku mewah yang memuatkan gambar berkaitan perjalanan hidup Dr Lim sebagai ahli politik dan pemimpin parti serta usaha beliau menubuhkan universiti itu, yang beliau juga adalah canselornya.

"Kami mempelawa ahli sains politik, pemimpin parti, pemimpin masyarakat dan wartawan untuk menulis artikel tentang pengalaman mereka bersama rakyat Malaysia yang hebat ini dan perkara ini akan mengambil sedikit masa," katanya.

Dalam ucapannya, anak Dr Lim, Datuk Lim Si Pin, yang juga Ketua Pemuda Gerakan, berkata bapa beliau tidak mahu autobiografinya diterbitkan apabila Gerakan mencadangkan perkara itu beberapa tahun lepas.

Kata Si Pin, apabila parti berkenaan menyuarakan cadangan untuk menerbitkan autobiografi tentang bapanya, mendiang menolaknya kerana tidak mahu ia dianggap sebagai perbuatan "syok sendiri".

Sebab itulah, autobiografi itu tidak diterbitkan, katanya.

Terdahulu, dalam ucapannya, Koh berkata walaupun tiada siapa boleh menggantikan Dr Lim, tetapi rakyat boleh mencontohi pengorbanan dan komitmen mendiang terhadap Malaysia serta semangatnya untuk berkhidmat kepada rakyat.

Dr Lim meninggal dunia pada 22 Dis tahun lepas di kediamannya di Tropicana, Petaling Jaya setelah mengalami masalah kesihatan selama lebih setahun.
