KUALA LUMPUR, 27 SEPTEMBER, 2011: GE Energy, a global energy and technology company, today unveiled its latest energy innovation, a 50-megawatt power gas turbine, for the local power producers.

Its President for Asia Pacific, Kenji Uenishi, said the new FlexAero* LM600-PH was aimed at supporting the growth and development of Asia's rising economies with fast and flexible natural gas-driven power generation.

"The 50-megawatt gas turbine is a strong fit for China and the Asia Pacific region, where power generation fueled by natural gas is projected to account for 40 per cent of all power generation additions through 2020," he told reporters after the launch of the product here, today.

Kenji said the gas turbine was more environmental friendly, offering up to six per cent efficiency in terms of reducing CO2 gas emissions and operating costs, compared to an older product.

He also hoped that local electric power companies like Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), which are already its clients, would buy the FlexAero gas turbine for their new power plant projects.

TNB already uses 21 GE products and Petronas 42 units.

GE's FlexAero not only has 25 per cent more power than its predecessor, but also packs extra exhaust energy, which enhances it capability for combined heat and power applications, making it ideal for small power producers, he added.
