Experienced Marine Professionals Satumarin Wins Prestigious SME 100 Fast Moving Companies Award 2015

This year, the prestigious award that promotes the growth of Malaysia’s SMEs saw a staggering competition from 5,000 pre-selected candidates. The SME 100 Award is given in 19 selected industry groupings, and is ranked across all groupings in 1 to 100 order, with no more than 20 winners from any of the industry groupings: (1) Agriculture, Livestock, Plantations & Commodities; (2) Automotive; (3) Chemical and Plastics; (4) Construction/Engineering, Property Development & Building Materials; (5) Consumer Goods; (6) Education and Training; (7) Electrical and Electronics; (8) Food & Beverages; (9) Furniture and Wood based Manufacturing; (10) Healthcare, Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology; (11) Hospitality, Food Service & Tourism; (12) Industrial and Commercial Products; (13) Oil & Gas, Mining and Energy; (14) Personal Services; (15) Professional and Business Services; (16) Retail; (17) Telecommunications and ICT; (18) Trading and Wholesaling; and (19) Transportation and Logistics.

Independently researched and ranked after intricate compilation and analysis, the finalists are determined by the highest weighted average score with heavy weightage on growth (turnover, profit and market share) and resilience (best practices, sustainability and vision), as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in his printed message for the occasion, exhorts that the government will remain committed to supporting the growth of SME through various grants, incentives and capacity building programmes.

SME 100 ranks the top and fast moving companies based on a 60 percent quantitative and 40 percent qualitative criteria. With only the crème de la crème rounding up the top 100 list, SATUMARIN proves itself worthy to be accorded with the ultimate recognition as one of the winner in the Oil & Gas, Mining & Energy category.

12 other award recipients within the same category include Energy Quest Sdn Bhd, First Marine Services, Oceancare Corporation Sdn Bhd, and Technofit Sdn Bhd, among others. The successful companies received their respective awards from the guest of honor, Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and accompanied by Dato’ William Ng, group publisher and editor-in-chief Business Media International. Each winner received a gold-plated trophy along with a certificate of achievement.

Among other companies awarded for the 2015 honours were (in alphabetical order):

Brickfields Asia College (BAC), Cellavie, One World Hotel, Reapfield Properties, REGUS Management Malaysia, Senheng Electric, Thai Odyssey and TM Tours & Travel.

Looking ahead, SATUMARIN plans to expand its business presence in the Southeast Asian region, particularly in Brunei, Indonesia and Myanmar. Currently, the company is teaming up with a local higher learning institution to develop Remote Operating Vehicles (ROV) for inspection purposes.

With an aim to continue the company’s success and to enable future growth with ongoing development as a business, SATUMARIN Co-Founder, Captain Mohd Zailani Abd Razak added: “Our goal is to expand our portfolio to a higher level, being even more specialised, and offering more sophisticated services.”
