KUALA LUMPUR, 27 SEPTEMBER, 2011: Libya has thanked the Malaysian government over its recognition of the National Transitional Council (NTC) as the legitimate interim government in the northern African country.
Libyan ambassador to Malaysia Dr Abu Bakar Al-Mansori said the Malaysian government was very close to the Libyan issues and had been one of the first to support anti-Gaddafi forces.
"I think the announcement by the Malaysian government was very clear, indicating that that the Malaysian people are highly supportive of the legitimate government present in Libya" he told Bernama during a visit to the Malaysia national news agency here today.
Dr Al-Mansori said he would like Malaysia to help rebuild the strife-torn but oil rich country.
Last month, Malaysia joined other international voices in recognising NTC to help bring about lasting peace and stability to Libya and its people.
Dr Al-Mansori said difficulties faced by his country had not stopped Libyan students from pursuing their studies abroad, including in Malaysian institutions of higher learning.
He noted that the Malaysian government had done its best to help Libyan students who had trouble paying their fees over the past few months.
