KUALA LUMPUR: Polis akan menempatkan lebih 1,000 anggota bagi menjaga keselamatan orang ramai sempena sambutan perayaan Thaipusam di Batu Caves, selama empat hari mulai 24 Jan ini. 

Timbalan Ketua Polis Selangor Datuk A. Thaiveegan berkata selain menempatkan anggota di situ, orang ramai sendiri boleh mengambil beberapa langkah bagi menjamin keselamatan mereka. 

Sebagai contoh, katanya ibu bapa dinasihatkan agar menyimpan nombor telefon anggota keluarga dalam saku anak kecil mereka kerana itu akan memudahkan keluarga dihubungi sekiranya anak mereka hilang dalam kesesakan orang ramai. 

"Pengunjung juga diingatkan tidak meninggalkan barang bernilai seperti komputer riba dan telefon bimbit dalam kenderaan mereka yang diletak di tepi jalan," katanya kepada Bernama di sini hari ini. 

Beliau berkata para pengunjung juga mesti berkelakuan sopan dan tidak memakai pakaian yang menjolok mata bagi mengelakkan sebarang kekecohan di tempat ibadat itu. 

"Tindakan tegas akan diambil terhadap individu atau kumpulan yang melakukan kegiatan yang tidak senonoh seperti meminum arak, memiliki senjata tajam dan mengganggu ketenteraman penganut lain," kata beliau. 

Sementara itu, Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Kuil Sri Subramaniar Swamy Devasthanam Batu Caves, Datuk R. Nadarajah yakin jumlah penganut yang mengunjungi Thaipusam kali ini akan meningkat berbanding tahun lepas. 

"Sambutan Thaipusam kali ini yang jatuh pada hari minggu (27 Januari),akan menjadikannnya lebih meriah kerana lebih ramai pengunjung berpeluang melawat kuil itu," katanya. 

Nadarajah berkata para penganut harus memberi keutamaan terhadap keselamatan diri, di mana mereka dinasihatkan supaya tidak memakai barang kemas seperti rantai leher dan gelang tangan bagi mengelak berlaku kejadian tidak diingini. 

Beliau menyarankan ibu bapa yang membawa kanak-kanak kecil supaya memerhatikan mereka untuk mengelak kes kehilangan, kerana Thaipusam kali ini dijangka akan dibanjiri 1.5 juta penganut Hindu. 

"Kuil menyediakan perkhidmatan kaunter maklumat beroperasi 24 jam untuk membantu kanak-kanak mahupun sesiapa yang sesat mencari anggota keluarga mereka," katanya.
