Rumors ripe on the prospect of elections to be called this year with some sources saying that the parliament will be dissolved in April. The pivotal 13th General Election is predicted to be held sooner than expected by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

anwar_vs_najibThe Opposition leader said during "An Evening with Anwar Ibrahim" at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand (FCCT) in Bangkok  on Tuesday that most of the opposition coalition leaders in Pakatan Rakyat had during a recent meeting predicted the election be held either in May or June. They based their predictions on the various recent government assistances to the people that are scheduled to be delivered by March, he said.

"But I think it will be held sooner. Why? Because I can read their mind as I used to be one of them too," he said.

The five-year term of the current Malaysian government led by Barisan Nasional (BN) ends in March next year and the General Election need to be called before that dateline.

Meanwhile, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin also believes that 2012 is an “election year” during his debate with PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli last month.

To refresh our minds on the outcome of the last General Election, below is Malaysian Digest’s complete results of the historical GE12 which saw Barisan Nasional losing its customary two-thirds parliamentary majority for the first time ever since becoming a coalition in 1974.
