Malaysian Politicians with Facebook PDF Print

As we move into the digital age, more politicians has joined celebrities and everyone else in using the social media such as Facebook, Friendster and Twitter to reach their target audience. The social media is a platform for them to air their view on certain topics.

 

 

 


Social media has been proven as an effective two-way medium communications between politicians and their audience. Previously, we could only hear the view of individual politicians when they were asked by the mainstream media or during election. Now, we just have to turn to their Facebook page to get their view on certain issues. If they have yet come up with their own commentaries, Facebook users could even prompt the politicians to air their views.

Some of the recent posts by politicians are as follow:

1. CheDet posted an article entitled 'Democracy in Political Parties'. According to him in the post, even democracy is the best system ever invented by mankind, it still not free from imperfections. He said the system work best when peoples understand about its imperfectioness and limitation.

2. Anwar Ibrahim posted an article entitled 'Anwar Pushes Amendments To Guarantee Oil Royalties'. According to the article, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has given notice in Parliament of an attempt to table a private member’s bill to amend the Petroleum Development Act (PDA) 1974 to guarantee oil producing states revenue from oil royalties from the federal government.

3. Datuk Mukhriz Tun Mahathir posted his speech entitled 'Dasar Ekonomi Baru: Identiti, Jatidiri dan Keyakinan Melayu' . According to the speech, New Economic Policy has create Malay identity, which clarifying their right on this    country.

4. Lim Kit Siang posted an article entitled 'Personal Data Protection Bill Put Online as National Service and to Welcome Public Views' According to Kit Siang, it has taken the government some two decades to finally come out with Personal Data Protection Bill which was presented in Parliament for first reading. it is however not available online, which is a sad reflection on the government’s seriousness and commitment to ICT and e-government. Kit Siang stressed as a national service, the Personal Data Protection Bill is hereby put on-line and all public views and input are welcome before parliamentary debate next month.

5. Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the Facebook posted a several discussion forum entitled such "Racism and Racial Unity", "The Development of Nothern Corridor and How it can Benefir the Farmers", "Allow Tinted Car Window", "Chin Peng" and "National Civic Bureau".
