A Small Chance Of Hari Raya Joy For Inmates In Malaysian Prisons

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Prisons Department has assigned June 27 and 28 as the dates for families to visit their loved ones in prison, in conjunction with this year’s Hari Raya celebration.

Prisons Department Deputy Director (Policy) Supri Hashim said the dates have been assigned for all prisons, special recovery centers, special custody, and the Henry Gurney School, and the places will be closed during the first and second day of Hari Raya.

“Priority for visits will be given to the Muslim prisoners and the visiting hours are from 8.15am to 4.15pm," he said in a statement on Sunday,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Supri asked for the visitors to bring their visitation and identification cards to facilitate the arrangements, said they are prohibited from bringing outside food and money to the inmates as the basic necessities are provided by the Prison Department.

“If visitors intend to do so for purposes such as for examination fees, it must be included with an official receipt as a declaration of acceptance," said Supri as reported by Bernama.

The Prison Department also has the right to conduct physical examination on visitors entering and leaving the prison, as per the Prison Law and Act.

The visitor guide is also stated on its website: http://www.prison.gov.my/portal/page/portal/english/lkeluarga_en
