Saiful Bahari Baharom, who was a former Special Officer to the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economic Planning Unit) and a Special Functions Officer to the Second Minister of Finance for three years, felt the need to remind Malaysians about who they are voting for in the 14th General Election (GE14).

In this tumultuous political times, Saiful, whose family was once acquainted with now opposition leader Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has revealed a dark secret on his Facebook page about the former premier’s past involving his late father, which dates back to the 1980s.

While he admittedly built a close bond with the Pakatan Harapan chairman’s three children Mirzan, Marina as well as Mukhriz, and recounted how Dr Mahathir had personally helped his family during rough times, Saiful relayed how Dr Mahathir had stored a huge amount of money which he deemed is questionable.

Saiful revealed that £65 million (RM357 million) was kept in a bank account in London, which was safeguarded under his late father’s name. However, he was unsure what the money was used for – whether for personal purposes or for political reasons.

The money nevertheless was later returned to Dr Mahathir in the 1990s, through a prominent Umno secretary-general, the late Tan Sri Mohamed Rahmat.

“My father told me the money belonged to Dr Mahathir, and it wasn’t his,” he revealed, while sharing his disappointment over the fact that the former premier had made a big fuss over Datuk Seri Najib’s RM2.6 billion scandal instead.

Though some naysayers questioned Saiful on the timing of his posting in the heat of the upcoming election, he wrote,”I’m revealing this now because I love the special position of Islam and the Bumiputeras more.”

Saiful reaffirmed that his support for Najib was to avoid the country from falling into the hands of DAP and he is confident in the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman’s economic policies.

“Tun M has betrayed his own kind by conspiring with DAP. It took me a while to reveal this story after weighing the pros and cons,” he stressed.

While Saiful is happy to openly declare his support and vote for BN, he reminds Malaysians, “If you don't want to vote for BN, vote for PAS. If you refuse, then think strategically.“
