Salahuddin's Probable Contest In Tanjung Piai Proves No Grassroots Support In Pulai

JOHOR BAHRU -- Amanah deputy president, Salahuddin Ayub’s statement that he did not rule out the possibility of giving up the Pulai parliamentary seat to contest in Tanjung Piai in the coming 14th General Election (GE14) shows he has no grassroots support in Pulai.

Pulai MP Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the former PAS vice-president was aware that he (Salahuddin) did not have the election machinery to support and help him in the coming general election this time around, as compared to the time when Salahuddin contested under the PAS ticket in GE13.

“Last time, he contested under the PAS ticket, (and) now, he expresses his desire to change seat with the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM). (In fact,) he is keen to contest in Tanjung Piai, instead of Pulai.

“This is good news to me as it shows that Salahuddin knows that he has no party machinery to support him (in Pulai), unlike during the time when (he got) PAS to back him up,” he told reporters after visiting the Southern Zone Mara Education Carnival here today.

Nur Jazlan, who is also Home Deputy Minister, said at the same time he was surprised by the statement as it showed that as if the Pakatan Harapan – comprising PPBM, DAP, Amanah and PKR – had not finalised the allocation of their respective seats when the pact had made the announcement before this.

“This (statement) has surprised me because Johor was the first state to have announced that the seat allocation was completed. Now, it seems that there are still plans to swap seats among their (opposition) parties...,” he added.
