Altantuya's Father To Meet Attorney-General Tuesday

PETALING JAYA: Dr Setev Shaariibuu, the father of murdered Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu is currently in the country and is expected to meet with Attorney-General Tommy Thomas on Tuesday.

The family's lawyer, Ramkarpal Singh, in a media invite today said that he and Dr Shaariibuu would meet Tommy at 3pm and thereafter, would hold a press conference at about 4.30pm.

"The purpose of the meeting is to urge the new Attorney-General to seriously consider reopening the investigation into Altantuya's murder," he said.

Ramkarpal declined to elaborate further until they meet with the Attorney-General tomorrow.

Altantuya, 28, was believed to have been shot dead before her body was blown up with explosives.

The incident in 2008, took place at a secondary forest in Mukim Bukit Raja, Klang between 10pm on October 19, 2006 and 1am on October 20, 2006.

In 2009, former police Special Action Unit members, Sirul Azhar Umar and Azilah Hadri, were found guilty of murdering Altantuya.

The Court of Appeal overturned their sentences in 2013 but upon the prosecution's appeal, it was upheld by the Federal court.

However, Sirul fled to Australia where he was detained by the Australian Immigration at its detention centre in Sydney after Interpol issued a red notice on him.

He has been at the detention centre since 2015, where he is hoping to get asylum.
