Tourism May Be Affected By Rabies In Kuala Sepetang - Nolee Ashilin

IPOH: The Perak government has not ruled out the possibility that the declaration of Kuala Sepetang, Taiping, as a rabies-infected area has affected tourism activities there.

State Tourism, Arts, Culture, Multimedia and Communications Committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi said today the declaration was necessary to prevent the situation from worsening.

She said specific monitoring was being undertaken by various quarters, including the Veterinary Services Department and Perak Health Department.

“Indeed, the declaration has an effect on the arrival of tourists to Kuala Sepetang in the near future.

“Nevertheless, it had to be done and we will support the procedures adopted by the two departments so as to ensure that no tourist became a (rabies) victim,” she said to reporters after an Aidilfitri reception with state tourism industry players, here.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir made the declaration after a dog reportedly died from rabies on July 13.
