'Kit Siang Should Focus On His Own Party's Problems

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang is merely trying to divert public attention from party problems by attacking Gerakan.

Gerakan vice-president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau said Kit Siang, who recently launched a tirade against the BN component party, should focus on putting his own party in order instead.

He said DAP had recently faced a barrage of scandals, such as the illegal factory in Sungai Lembu and Penang Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh, the court case involving Kit Siang’s son and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in regards to the under-priced bungalow he purchased, the huge consultancy fees for the construction of three roads in Penang and the order by the Registrar of Societies for the party to hold re-elections for its central executive committee positions.

Lau said it was surprising to see that Gerakan had “suddenly become a big deal for DAP”, as the opposition party had arrogantly dismissed it as a spent force following its dismal performance in the last general election.

“(Kit Siang) rants about Gerakan being a ‘three-stooges’ party in BN which dares not speak up on issues of importance, but he conveniently forgets that he rules DAP with an iron fist and will not tolerate dissent,” he said in a statement.

Lau was responding to a statement by Kit Siang earlier today in which the latter blasted Gerakan as a BN component party which dared not speak up on issues affecting Malaysians but dwelled on trifles and trivialities.

He noted that Gerakan had always stood for what was right and will never sway from protecting the interests of the rakyat.

“Despite being part of the government, Gerakan had always spoken out to its political allies in Barisan on issues and matters that concern the people. But we do not simply lash out and make outrageous comments against the government, as Barisan believes in the spirit of consensus,” he said.

At the same time, Lau said Kit Siang had proven once again to be a hypocrite as the latter would not tolerate the challenge by Gerakan president Datuk Mah Siew Keong to contest against Penang BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow in the 14th general election.

“He should really look at himself in the mirror first before talking about others. My advice for (Kit Siang) is to look after his own party first. DAP has enough worries of its own which are obvious even if its members are not allowed to speak out,” he said.
