M’sian Singer Shunned From Industry For Not Having ‘The Package’ Makes Strong Comeback On Asia’s Got Talent

After several years of going ‘missing’ from the local entertainment scene, Mafarikha Md Akhir appeared on stage of Asia’s Got Talent, and blew the crowd away.

The runner-up winner of reality TV competition ‘Vokal... Bukan Sekadar Rupa', who was all nerves when coming on stage, told the three judges of the competition, David Foster, Anggun and Jay Park, that she is there to try her luck and make a comeback – and what a comeback she made!

Singing a rendition of Mariah Carey’s ‘Hero’, she continuously wowed the audience and judges throughout her performance.

At the end of her performance, Mafarikha could not contain her emotions and shed some tears while the audience and judges gave her a standing ovation.

When Anggun asked if she was happy to be singing, with tears in her eyes, she answered, “Yes, I am happy. It has been a long time.”

After praising her performance, the judges unanimously voted ‘Yes’ for her to proceed to the next round.

“Honestly, I did not expect that all the three judges will do so (vote ‘Yes’). I was so touched and shed some tears.

“Not only that, the entire hall gave me a thunderous applause. Never in my life have I received such appreciation,” Mafarikha told Utusan Online.

Despite her undeniable talent, Mafarikha shared in a tearful interview on the show how hard it was for her to break into the Malaysian music industry, just because she did not have ‘the package’.

“I started joining the music industry in Malaysia in 2011 when I was 19.

“It was hard to break into the industry because they said that I did not have ‘the package’.

“I got into one record label but it didn’t turn out that good.

“I’ve waited for about four years and after going through so much hardship, I stopped singing early last year (2016),” she tearfully shared.

As it is her dream to continue with her singing, she said that she is on Asia’s Got Talent because “it is time to sing again.”

The praises did not stop there as many YouTubers are encouraging her forward and to us, she has made a successful return to the music scene and we wish her the best of luck in the competition!
