Melaka Denies Using Gov't Funds For Political Party Events

MELAKA -- The Melaka state government has denied that it used government funds for political party affairs including paying for the Pan Malaysia Barisan National Representatives’ Wives Annual Programme to be held here from tomorrow until Nov 26.

In a statement issued today, Melaka State Secretary Datuk Seri Naim Abu Bakar said the allegations made by Ayer Keroh state assemblyman Khoo Poay Tiong were baseless.

He urged Khoo to check the validity of the information before making a statement as the state government was not involved in providing any funds for PTIWRBNM.

“PTIWRBNM is a programme held in states which take turns and Melaka was chosen as the host for 2017. The state government is only providing the dinners on Nov 23 and 25,” he said here today.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron told reporters that the state government was paying for the dinner to welcome the guests and he urged Khoo to check his facts before hurling accusations.

In his Facebook account, Khoo, who is Melaka State Assembly opposition leader, alleged that the state government had abused its power by using public funds for political affairs by hosting PTIWRBNM and this was reported by several vernacular newspapers.
