An imam in Gemas, Negeri Sembilan showed an exemplary dedication towards his duties after he solemnised a couple's marriage despite having a severely injured foot.

The imam of Masjid Al-Ansar Jelai 4, Md Ngisum A Manan, 69, fell off his motorcycle on November 23 and was hospitalised due to a broken toe on his right foot.

“I fell off my motorcycle on that Thursday while I was riding towards the mosque, and fell right at the junction of the mosque’s entrance.

“I was rushing to the mosque after hearing the call to prayer while I was at an event.”

Md Ngisum explained he fell after trying to evade an incoming motorcycle while he was entering the mosque grounds. The rain at the time made the road slippery, caused him to skid and fall on his right leg, with his motorcycle pinning him down.

After the incident, his son brought him to the Tampin Hospital and the X-ray scan showed he had broken his right toe.

“The doctor said I needed to apply a cast on my foot and stay in the hospital wards, but I denied his advice as I had a duty to solemnise a marriage the next day,” he said to Sinar Harian.

He returned home that day, and temporarily bandaged his injured foot with a piece of cloth to perform his wedding duty.

“I was relieved after I fulfilled my duty to solemnise the marriage. I am fully booked this December, as there is a wedding almost every week,” said the imam, who has an experience of solemnising more than 300 marriages.

What's more impressive is that even though his foot remains wrapped in a cast, Md Ngisum is not taking a break from his duties and is willing to work as usual.
