PUTRAJAYA: The Naseer Medical Complex in Gaza can now purchase surgical equipment with US$120,000 (RM470,700) donated by Malaysians.

Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Ramlan Ibrahim today handed the contribution to the ambassador of the State of Palestine to Malaysia, Datuk Dr Anwar H. Al-Agha.

“The funds will be channeled to the Palestinian Health Ministry for the purchase of a laparoscope and autoanalyzer for surgical purposes at the Naseer Medical Complex in Gaza.

“This is another demonstration of Malaysia’s continuous commitment in providing humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians,” said Wisma Putra in a statement today.

It added that the contribution was from ‘Akaun Amanah Kemanusiaan Rakyat Palestin (AAKRP). AAKRP was established by the Foreign Ministry in 2002 to collect, coordinate and channel contributions from the people of Malaysia to the Palestinians.

Wisma Putra said the public could donate to AAKRP’s CIMB bank account 1601-0000233-10-3 or write a cheque under “Akaun Amanah Kemanusiaan Rakyat Palestin’” and send it to Akaun Amanah Kemanusiaan Rakyat Palestin, Bahagian Kewangan dan Akaun, Kementerian Luar Negeri No 1, Jalan Wisma Putra Presint 2, 62602 Putrajaya.
