But wait, take a closer look at the name before jumping to conclusions.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) supreme council member Datuk Dr Rais Hussin had tweeted out the allegation two days ago, accusing the prime minister's wife of having links to Cambridge Analytica.

"Begitu intimate relationship between PMO/Rosmah with Cambridge Analytica ! Care to comment," Rais tweeted with an attached link to a media report covering Datin Seri Rosmaoh Mansor's official visit to Istanbul in 2016 at the invitation of Cambridge IF Analytica.

Rais even added that the Malaysian Embassy in Ankara confirmed that Rosmah made the visit at the invitation of Cambridge IF Analytica in conjunction with the Global Good Governance (3G) Awards 2016.

But it turns out, that there is a world of difference between the two names.

Cambridge IF Analytica is an organization that produces reports on good governance and carries out comprehensive analysis of corporate best practices around the world whereas Cambridge Analytica is the data mining firm at the center of a global controversy over using data from Facebook to build a software programme that can help predict and influence voter choices to win elections for their clients.

Rosmah's work as patron of Permata in helping underpriviledged gifted children to excel had earned her global recognition including being bestowed the Global Good Governance Awards (3G Awards) in 2016 which was held in the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Istanbul back in May 2016.

PPBM's Rais had tried to spin that fact into fake news literally, by linking the prime minister's wife's name to the ongoing scandal over Cambridge Analytica.

However, that piece of fake news was promptly debunked by Cambridge IF Analytica which issued a statement published on its Facebook page clarifying that their organization has no links to Cambridge Analytica

"The management and stakeholders of CAMBRIDGE IF-ANALYTICA wishes to clarify that we are NOT in anyway associated with Cambridge Analytica. These two are separate entities and not in anyway related. Thank you," the statement reads.

Rais's misinformed attempt to smear Rosmah's name was also criticised by netizens.

Earlier, attempts to link the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) led federal government to using the services of the data mining firm resulted in PPBM's deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir being put in the spotlight after it was revealed that Cambridge Analytica dealt exclusively with him.
