Khairy Urges Govt to Allow Lecturers and Undergrads to Join Politics | Print |

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 JULY, 2010: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has urged the government to allow lecturers and undergraduates to join politics.

He said it was time that the Universities and College Universities Act (AUKU) be amended so that they could be active in politics, just like teachers.

"We propose that the government extend the ruling to include university lecturers and undergraduates," he told reporters after chairing the Umno Youth Exco meeting here today.

Khairy said allowing lecturers and undergraduates to be active in politics would create future leaders of quality.

But he agreed with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak that politics should not be brought into classrooms.
