Cop Charged With Soliciting Bribe

IPOH: A 34-year-old policeman was charged at the Sessions Court here today, for asking a RM500 bribe from a 27-year-old used goods trader in Gerik last year.

Lans Corporal Harisyam Che Harun, who was attached to the Gerik police station, allegedly asked the bribe from M Ganesan, as an inducement to return the latter's confiscated Mykad.
He allegedly committed the act in Kampung Kuala Ruil the act at 4pm on Mar 27 last year.
He was also offered an alternative charge under Section 384 for extortion.
Harisyam, who was represented by counsel Hatim Musa, claimed trial.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission prosecuting officer M Kanthan led the prosecution.
Judge Julie Lack Abdullah set bail at RM5,000 with one surety and fixed Apr 26 for mention.
