MUAR, 24 MAY, 2011: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today reminded the Malays not to fall for the tricks of the DAP which is said to be planning to field Malay candidates in the next general election (GE).
Â
Muhyiddin, who is also Umno deputy president, said it was just an attempt by the DAP to hoodwink the Malays when in reality it was a chauvinistic party which had never cared about the wellbeing of the Malays.
Â
"I wish to remind the Malays, this (DAP) is the most chauvinistic party. They claim to champion the Malaysian Malaysia agenda but from its inception till now, I know they are the most chauvinistic kind," he told reporters.
He said this after holding a "meet-the-people" session with the residents of Kampung Tulang Gajah, Lenga, Pagoh near here where he also received membership application forms to join Umno from villagers of Kampung Sentosa, an Orang Asli village.Â
Muhyiddin was commenting on statements made by Defence Minister and Umno vice president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi recently that DAP was drawing up plans to field Malay candidates in the GE.
Â
Muhyiddin said the move by DAP was just a tactic to garner support from the Malays although it had never fielded Malay candidates in previous elections.
He said DAP was trying to show it it was a party that championed the interests of all race when it was not the case.
"Malays must take note, do no become disunited just because someone says they will champion their plight. We have never heard of the DAP fighting for the Malay cause, in fact they are only good at disputing policies aimed at helping the Malays," he said, adding that despite only contesting in Chinese-majority areas in elections, the party chose to brand Umno a racist party.
This was furthest from the truth as Umno and the Barisan Nasional (BN) championed the interests of all Malaysians irrespective of race, he added.
On Umno's preparations for the GE, Muhyiddin said members must consolidate solidarity and avoid any type of infighting to ensure a big victory for the BN.
