Quake In Sabah but Hardly Anyone Felt It PDF Print

KUALA LUMPUR, 7 FEB, 2010: An earthquake of 2.6 magnitude occurred early Sunday 11km northeast of Ranau in Sabah, the Meteorological Department reported.

It said in a statement that the quake occurred at 6.1 degrees North and 116.8 degrees East at 2.07am.

Minor tremors might have been felt in and around Ranau, it added.

Ranau district police chief Deputy Supt Suhaimi Hashim said that he heard about the earthquake over the news but he himself did not feel a thing.

He said the police had also checked with the people in the area and most of them did not feel the quake either.

No reports or information about any damages caused by the earthquake were made so far .

District Officer Faimin Kamin said there was no damage probably because the quake was mild and it occurred some distance away from the town.

Ranau district is situated at the foot of Mt Kinabalu, the highest mountain in Southeast Asia which is a tourist attraction.
