Hisham Proposes 7 Amendments PDF Print

Kuala Lumpur, Thu - Seven amendments to the UMNO constitution was outlined by Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, head of the UMNO Constitutional Amendments Committee today.

Among them are abolishing the quota system used in the candidacy of UMNO elections, giving the Wanita, Youth and Puteri chiefs at the branch level the authority to recruit and accept members, and pricing the UMNO life membership at only RM2.

According to an UMNO insider, the other amendments include expanding the number of delegates who are elegible to vote and determine the UMNO top leadership from 2,500 to 146,500, and automatically appointing the divisional secretary as a delegate to the UMNO General Assembly, and holding all divisional meetings to be held simultaneously on the same day.

Most notable is the proposed amendment to give the UMNO president the power to appoint two (2) members of UMNO Wanita to the UMNO Supreme Council instead of the one (1) position currently given.

“This means that UMNO Wanita is being given acknowledgement for their efforts and contribution, as well as in recognition that Wanita members make up half of the whole membership of UMNO,” says the insider.

He also says that Hishammuddin expects these amendments to be passed without much conflict or difficulty.
