KUALA LUMPUR: Police have ruled out business and political rivalry in the attack on Kepong Umno Youth chief Datuk Norizan Ali, who was allegedly slashed by two men near his home in Ampang two weeks ago.
It is learnt that police believed there was only one motive robbery after Norizan gave his account of the events that led to the Sept 24 attack.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Amiruddin Jamaluddin said there were few leads into the case as even the fingerprints of the suspects lifted at the scene were incomplete.
He added, however, that the investigations were continuing.
In the meantime, Norizan was discharged from the Ampang Hospital on Monday and said to be recuperating at home.
“I am told he is responding well to treatment,” said ACP Amiruddin, when contacted by The Star yesterday.
Attempts to contact Norizan and his family, however, were unsuccessful.
The politician suffered serious injuries to the stomach and almost lost a finger during the 4am attack, which occurred when he was returning back to his house in Taman Dagang after watching a televised football match at a nearby restaurant.
Two men allegedly pounced on him after he had parked his Mercedes-Benz about 20m from the house. They fled empty-handed after he screamed for help.
Norizan was later rushed to the Ampang Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was warded at the intensive care unit.
Police have since recorded statements from 28 people.
Those who can shed more light on the case are urged to contact the Ampang Jaya police station at 03-4252 2222.
