KUALA LUMPUR: Seven cyber offenders have been brought to court on charges involving mainly insulting the institution of the monarchy. Deputy Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Joseph Salang said all network contents including social network on the Internet are subject to legislations such as the Sedition Act 1948, Penal Code, Defamation Act 1957, Internal Security Act 1960 including the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998."The party who is defamed or dishonoured can take civil action privately by filing a defamation suit against those alleged to have put up the defamation in the social network," he said when replying a question by Datuk Abu Bakar Taib (BN-Langkawi) at the Dewan Rakyat here today. Abu Bakar wanted to know the action which could be taken against bloggers who use the media to insult the country and create anxiety among the people. Salang said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has set up a Complaint Bureau as a centre to receive all complaints including abuse on the Internet.
