Former PKR No 2, Syed Husin Ali. Pix: The Malaysian InsiderPETALING JAYA: Former PKR No 2 Syed Husin Ali cautioned Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders today to be wary of statements made to reporters to avoid miscommunication over the future of Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.  

He was referring to the controversial statement by his successor Azmin Ali that Khalid will get a Cabinet post if PR captures Putrajaya. PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali had then chimed in to say the matter was never discussed. 

“Pakatan’s leaders must be wary when issuing statements to the media. 

“I see this issue rising, even though it is a small one, it can create bad perception later on,” Syed Husin told The Malaysian Insider during the launching of his book, Memoirs of Political Struggle. 

Syed Husin said PR was ready to defend Selangor in the upcoming general elections and was confident they could continue to rule Malaysia’s richest state. 

“If they can maintain their current performance, I think Selangor can remain Pakatan’s. 

“The only problem now is that there are still many questionable registered voters the Election Commission (EC) has yet to settle,” Syed Husin added. 

When asked about Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s challenge for PR to form a shadow cabinet, Syed Husin said the action showed that Umno had lost any further minor agendas to attack the coalition. 

“That challenge is a small matter compared to PR wanting an administration that was transparent and free of corruption,” Syed Husin said. 

Najib had challenged PR last week to form a shadow cabinet, a promise they have yet to keep. 

“Don’t talk about forming a government when you haven’t even formed a shadow cabinet. Why don’t they have one yet?” Najib said.
