Couple, 3 Men Detained In Extortion Case

SHAH ALAM: The police have detained a married couple and three men in connection with the wrongful confinement and extortion of a foreign worker recruitment agent. 

The suspects, aged between 28 and 42, were picked up in a raid at a house in Taman Baiduri Jaya, Bandar Teknologi in Kajang yesterday. 

The 42-year-old victim was rescued during the raid at the house. 

The raid followed a police report at 2am yesterday, lodged by the victim's son, a tattoo artist. 

The tattoo artist had earlier, received a phone call from a female sundry shop operator who told him that they had forcibly confined his father and demanded RM350,000 for his release. 

Selangor CID chief SAC Mohd Adnan Abdullah said yesterday, the incident was related to debts involving the recruitment agent and the woman's husband and one of the suspects, who was a Bangladeshi. 

Meanwhile, the police chief confirmed that RM285,000 of the RM1 million robbed from a security van in Klang by five armed men on Oct 3, had been recovered. 

In the 5.30pm incident, the van had stopped at a gaming shop in Jalan Meru, Klang to collect the day's takings when the men armed with pistols arrived in a green Proton Waja car. 

The gunmen took the money and a firearm belonging to one of the security personnel.
