Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said he was confident of achieving the target after police obtained an allocation for 1,000 motorcycles as well as an addition of 10,000 Police Volunteer Force (PVR) personnel to assist police combat crime, especially in housing areas and shopping centres.

"Apart from that, increasing the installation of closed circuit television cameras at strategic places in various municipalities could also assist police monitor crime incidents and restore public confidence in the police," he told reporters after signing a memorandum of understanding between PDRM and Celcom Malaysia at Bukit Aman here yesterday.

To ensure the target was achieved, he said police welcomed the participation of any parties to fill vacancies in PVR.

Commenting on the success of Malaysia in ending the conflict between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), Ismail described it as a victory to ensure lasting peace in the country.

He said the solution reached between the two parties was a happy and meaningful achievement for the people and the Philippine government as well as for Malaysia.

"I think everybody is waiting for this moment, anything to do with peace must be welcomed as it would also affect national security," he said.

Yesterday, the Philippine government and MILF reached an agreement on the Framework Agreement on Bangsamoro which is expected to be signed by October 15.

The framework agreement which defines the power and the new structured entity of Bangsamoro to replace the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao also sets out the principles, process and mechanism to form a new relation between the central government and Bangsamoro.

On the memorandum with Celcom, Ismail said the agreement was aimed at providing consent to locate telecommunications equipment at the premises of the two parties without commercial liability.

"With this, police and Celcom can provide space in their respective premises to build, install and maintain equipment as well as infrastructure for wider telecommunications coverage," he said.
