Filepic: The Malaysian TimesKUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Ismail Omar today announced that the Royal Malaysia Police will be holding a recruitment drive for 1,000 Inspectors at upcoming convocations of public and private Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLS).

He said the graduates would need to fulfill the usual criteria related to health, height and interest to serve in the police force.

"We'll implement it as soon possible. For starters, I've instructed our management to be present and offer the jobs at the very next convocation," he said.

Speaking at a press conference on the Tertiary Students United Against Crime programme here today, he said the approach would enable the police to recruit talents with specific skills for the force.

"We want graduates from the different fields offered by IHLs and with specific skills which will benefit the force," he added.

Commenting on Friday's programme, Ismail said he believed it would create the necessary exposure on policing to attract university graduates to choose the field.

"Today we invited 192 students from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa, Universiti Malaya, Univerisiti Teknologi Mara and Universiti Utara Malaysia to get to know the police force better though briefings and visits.

"With this approach, which will be carried out at IHLs nationwide, we aim to provide a better understanding of the policing system," he said.
