KUALA KANGSAR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said that the proposal to have a new law to prevent foreign intervention in the country through the influx of foreign funds should be given fair consideration.
He said the proposal should be studied so that there exists an Act that would prevent such an intervention which aimed at threatening national security, as well as peace and harmony in the country.
“The influx of foreign funds for such purposes will cause us to become agents of foreign powers and we will be forced to create lies to destabilize the country. That is very bad.
“What if Israel is one of that foreign powers when all this while we are seen as a country with a strong anti-Israel stance? We have to make sure things like this will not happen in our country.”
Nazri (pic) said this in response to the proposal made by several members of Parliament (MP) that it was high time for Malaysia to have a law to regulate the influx of foreign funds, in particular to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), that was aimed at destabilizing the country.
Nazri, who is also Padang Rengas MP, said the proposal should be scrutinized by making comparisons with similar Acts in other countries.
Meanwhile, on the call made by various quarters regarding issues of statutory rape, Nazri said the matter had been discussed with the Attorney-General and several amendments on the relevant laws would be done in the next Parliament session.
Among the laws involved to be amended is Section 375 of the Penal Code and Section 294 of the Criminal Procedures Code, he said.
On complaints that the fines imposed for traffic offences recorded by the Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras being too high, Nazri said they were aimed at reducing the number of fatal road accidents.
“This is because the death toll due to road accidents is high. The government will not do anything to burden the people, but instead it is done to protect the people,” he said.
Earlier, Nazri attended the leader-meets-people event at the Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Khiu Min in Padang Rengas here.
