KUALA LUMPUR: Awareness regarding organ donations has improved in Malaysia, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
Liow, while launching National Organ Donation Awareness Week in Insitute Jantung Negara (IJN) Sunday said that there are now 205,478 pledged organ donors in the country, 77.7 percent more than in 2010 since the awareness campaign began.
"However this is only 0.73% of the total Malaysian population. For this reason the Ministry must continue to play an active role in the campaign," Liow said.
In conjunction with this year's celebration, the ministry has introduced an online registration system to facilitate organ donation pledges. Online registration is available at www.agiftoflife.gov.my.
