PUTRAJAYA: Media members and artistes are urged to become members of the Consumer Squad and be the eyes and ears for the government in issues on consumerism, including to help monitor prices of goods.Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said because of their influence, they could help deliver messages on consumerism more effectively.
"The media has huge influence on the people. That is why we want the media to understand issues on consumerism so that they will be able to explain the issues better.
"As for artistes, they have many followers," he told reporters after a programme with the media and artistes at the Maritime Centre here Sunday.
Ismail Sabri said the ministry also planned to get artistes to explain to the people issues on consumerism.
The Consumer Squad currently has more than 70,000 members nationwide, and is targetting to get 100,000 members by the year end.
