PETALING JAYA: The police force spent more than RM6.25 billion last year, about RM430 million more than it was allocated.

According to the 2011 Auditor-General’s report, wages and expenses that came with keeping the peace during by-elections and demonstrations added to this amount.

The report said: "The additional expenditure amounting to RM430 million was due to insufficient allocations… emoluments and spending on operational tasks during by-elections and Ops Bersih 2.0."

It did not detail the exact figures relating to this increase.

However, the report added that the police also spent RM520 million on development, just RM10 million shy of its RM530 million allocation mark.

It also showed that the police force increased its revenue for 2011, recording a total of RM655.6 million, a rise from 2010's RM618.75 million.

The Auditor-General's report also showed that Malaysia's police force seemed to be in good standing when it came to managing finances in 2011, scoring 81.4 per cent for the entire country.

It did not hit this same level when it came to management controls, with the police force receiving a 71 per cent score nationwide.

However, the police seemed to do much better when it came to the “receipt control” department, which looked at the force’s receiving and collecting money, earning a 90.9 per cent score overall.
