Police believe the Porsche Panamera stolen from this Jalan Bukit Bintang showroom on Oct 11 is still in the country. Pix: NSTKUALA LUMPUR: Only RM30,000 for a Porsche Panamera 4, which costs almost RM1 million in the market.
That was the offer made by the suspect who drove away the car from a showroom in Jalan Bukit Bintang on Oct 11 to his buyer.
The 31-year-old suspect, who was picked up at a house in Kampung Pendamar, Pandamaran, is under police custody and being investigated for another theft – about RM500,000 from a showroom in Jalan Chan Sow Lin on Sept 6. City CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the suspect, who is a former detainee under the Emergency Ordinance, had 11 records of car thefts and is also wanted in connection with two other cases. Yesterday, police released a photofit of a 42-year-old man believed to have bought the Porsche. "We believe the suspected buyer will be able to shed light on the possibility of any syndicates involved (in the disposal of the car)," said Ku. "We believe the car is still in Malaysia." Ku said the man arrested in connection with the theft of the Porsche acted alone and ruled out the showroom staff’s involvement. The man had walked into the showroom at Jalan Bukit Bintang at 9am on the pretext of meeting a friend. After taking an envelope containing the car keys, he got into the gold-coloured Posrche Panamera parked at the showroom and drove out before the guards realised the theft.
