KUALA TERENGGANU: Police arrested early Sunday a man wanted for several violent crimes in Besut, Terengganu CID chief ACP K. Manoharan said.

The 34-year-old suspect was held at about 4.30 am at his in-laws' house in Kampung Kuala Besut, he said.

He said the man was also wanted in connection with the assault of a teacher in August.

"The suspect is one of three siblings we have been looking for to help in the investigation into the assault of a man who had scolded and slapped a noisy child at a mosque in Besut," he told reporters.

Manoharan said police were on the hunt for the two other siblings.

He also said that police had set up a special team to trace five gangsters suspected to have been involved in four assault cases in Besut since July.

One of the cases was the assault of a 35-year-old teacher last Tuesday in front of the Sultan Mizan Teacher Training College in Besut, he said.

The teacher was injured in the back, left hand and right leg after he was slashed with parangs, he added.
