JERANTUT: Logging companies have been urged to halt their activities in secluded jungle areas in Pahang for the duration of the flood season in the state.

Jerantut police chief Supt Azad Ismail also advised timber workers to vacate their lodgings in the areas to prevent being stranded due to floods and attacked by wild elephants.

The decomposed remains of a senior citizen, Thong Weng Chun, 80, was discovered in a timber lodging in Bukit Harimau Ulu Tembeling, on Dec 22, he said here today.

He added that the man's body had serious injuries and the lodging was partially destroyed, believed to have been trampled by a herd of wild elephants.

He also advised the villagers in such vicinities, who frequently went into the jungles, to inform the police beforehand in order to prevent any untoward incidents.
