Picture of the high school canteen on fire that was shared on Twitter.SUBANG JAYA: A fire occurred at the school canteen of SMK USJ4 here last night. The incident, confirmed by a source from the Subang Jaya police, apparently stemmed from a short circuit. However, no injuries were reported and damages were estimated to be at a minimal, the source added.
Students were seen attending school as usual this morning, the Malaysian Digest observed at 7.30 this morning.
While it has yet to be determined the actual time of incident, netizens on Twitter began publishing images of the fire at about midnight last night.Checks by MD found several tweets commenting and sharing images of the blazing canteen rooftop. The tweets mostly came from school-goers, in which many were making jokes about the fire, hoping that it would happen to their school instead.
THE AFTERMATH: Picture shows half of the canteen rooftop missing, this morning. Pic: mDA tweet from @Malaysian_Macha read: "In the hours that I slept, smk usj 4 was on fire. Why do all the cool things happen AFTER I leave school?"
Another user @AshleyEv3 tweeted: "So I read that smk usj 4 was on fire. HAHA it's about bloody time! Joke of the year, man seriously."
According to netizens, this was the fourth school reported to have caught on fire in Subang Jaya.
Twitter user @nazatulamirah wrote: "The list of subang jaya school that was on fire: smk usj 13, smk usj 8, smk seafield now smk usj 4 . Well pls be prepared smk usj 12 :)".
The last reported school blaze in Subang Jaya was on Sep 12, 2012, when the second floor of SMK USJ 13 caught fire during school hours.
In that incident, no one was reported hurt although the school's afternoon session had to be cancelled for awhile.
