SANDAKAN, 8 FEBRUARY, 2012: A couple with nine children were a picture of happiness when they managed to get birth certificates for the siblings at the National Registration Department's (NRD) mobile registration programme held at Sungai Manila, here today.

Jen Yusuf, 44, and his wife Putih Madsa, 40, took the opportunity to register their children, aged four to 19, as being illiterate, they had problems with personal documentation and marriage certificate.

"Our children could not go to school because they did not have birth certificates.

"However, with this programme, it has helped our family and my children can look forward to a better future," Jen told Bernama.

Meanwhile, the programme's operation chief, Noorzain Tawi said 36 NRD officers were involved in the programme to be held over four days at three locations, Taman Cahaya Complex, Batu 12 (today and tomorrow), Batu Putih Multipurpose Hall (Feb 10) and Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Sibugal Besar (Feb 11).
