JOHOR BAHARU, 24 FEBRUARY, 2012: Police have identified the masterminds responsible for fixing the President's Cup match between Johor FC and Perlis on Feb 16.
Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the masterminds were identified by the special squad following a report lodged by Johor FC officials on Feb 18. "We have identified several masterminds but need to gather more information and proof before dragging them to court," he said here today. Mokhtar said initial investigation also found that the masterminds involved have ties with international bookies. He said a thorough investigation will be made and urged the public and football players not to be involved in match fixing. Newspapers today reported that six players Johor FC players had been suspended immediately from playing, believed involved with match fixing. Johor FC beat Perlis 3-0. Johor FC honorary secretary Mohd Tahir Hamdan said the suspension was indefinite until an investigation by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) is completed. - Bernama
