KUALA LUMPUR, 6 MARCH 2012: The people's support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has become increasingly clear as they are enjoying the spillover effects of each policy introduced by him, according to Deputy Health Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin.
The Papar member of parliament said the Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders and members, as well as the people were now moving forward in tandem with all the efforts implemented by Najib. "Indeed, each policy implemented by the government under the leadership of the prime minister in bringing development to the people and their support is increasingly clear," she said when contacted today. Rosnah was asked to comment on the statement by former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin in an interview with a local newspaper recently, that Najib was ready to take the nation forward after being tested with some of the most difficult challenges and tribulations. Daim who praised the prime minister's personality and political acumen, also raised the question of whether BN was prepared to move forward wth Najib Rosnah, who is also Puteri Umno chief, believes that Umno and all the other BN component parties were prepared to more forward in tandem with Najib. "In fact, in many policies introduced by the government, the component parties have moved forward together with the prime minister to ensure Malaysia is on the right track in national development and in shaping racial relations in the country. "What more with the tradition of 'turun padang' (going to the ground) carried on by Datuk Seri Najib and his deep concern for the less fortunate, the current government administration is surely well received by the people," she said. Universiti Sains Malaysia senior political science lecturer, Dr Sivamurugam Pandian said Najib's credibility had become increasingly clear since taking over the premiership in April 2009, having used various approaches to get close to every section of Malaysian society. "He has shown commitment and responsibility in issues related to the community. This has made him increasingly popular. There has been a positive change in public acceptance towards him compared to before 2008," he said. On BN's readiness to move forward with Najib, Sivamurugam said this would actually depend on how far the nation's political leaders shared the prime minister's aspirations. "The prime minister needs a team that works with him. What he does must be carried out by the 222 parliamentary constituency coordinators for BN, to show that there is unity and collective actions among the BN leaders. "The unifying factor is Najib. How the others reacted have all changed since 2008. Use Najib's popularity as the benchmark for mobilisation of support," he said. On opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim running down the government outside the country, Sivamurugam said Najib not protesting or fighting back Anwar's allegations was to avoid further confusion to the public. Sivamurugan also said that the prime minister apologising for BN's past mistakes recently, could help lessen the anger and disappointment of people who had cast protest votes against BN in the 2008 general election.
