BUTTERWORTH, 1 FEBRUARY, 2012: A policeman pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to three counts of corruption involving RM2,500 last year.
Azalan Sanip, 48, a policeman with the rank of a sergeant and attached with Seberang Perai Tengah police headquarters, was charged with obtaining RM1,000 from one Mohammad Nasir Mohamad to settle a theft case.
He was alleged to have committed the offence at his office on Feb 27 at around noon. He was also charged with soliciting RM1,000 from Roslan Che Lah also to settle a theft case, at the same place and time. The third charge involved receiving RM500 from Roslan to settle a theft case, at the same place on March 1 at 4:30pm.
Judge Ikmal Hishan Mohd Tajuddin granted RM2,000 bail with one surety for the first count and RM3,000 with one surety for the second and third counts.
The case is set for mention on March 1. The prosecution is carried out by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigating officer Mohd Firdaus Abdullah while S Anthony Samy represents the accused.
