KUANTAN, 26 FEBRUARY, 2012: Pakatan Rakyat will cancel the Lynas rare earth plant project if it comes to power, said Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the ant-Lynas rally here today.
He also assured the crowd of protestors that if Pakatan were given a mandate to run the country, all environmentally destructive actions, repression and confiscation of people’s property will be stopped.
“Enough with all the violence and their (government) wiles. They never give space for us to explain to people why we reject Lynas,” said the Permatang Pauh MP.
“Today, I want to make an announcement. We (Pakatan) will cancel the Lynas project when we manage to take over Putrajaya,” he told a crowd of 10,000 at the Kuantan Municipal Council MPK 4 field.
Protesters have gathered at the MPK 4 field for the Himpunan Hijau 2.0 rally this morning, making it the biggest turnout in the protest against the rare earth plant Lynas.
Most of the participants were donned in green t-shirts.
Among the attendees were DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang, Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh, Kuala Langat MP Abdullah Sani, national laureate Datuk A Samad Said and Hishammuddin Rais.
Some of them were also carrying banners written with 'Stop Lynas, Save Malaysia'.
