[Video] Malaysian Volunteer Cook For Syrian Refugees In Greece Begs For Ellen DeGeneres’ Help

In the wake of the Syrian refugee crisis, more than 3,200 have perished this year, including little boy Aylan, whose photos have touched the hearts of many around the world.

And in this cruel world, one big-hearted Malaysian man, Rayyan Haries, operates his little makeshift kitchen in Skala Sikaminea, Lesbos, Greece to feed up to 2,000-4,000 Syrian refugees a day.

The 25-year-old from Subang Jaya told Mashable “I flew all the way from Malaysia to open a kitchen here for the refugees. These people have gone through the extreme. You know, it doesn’t take much to feed a person, I just want to cook for people.”

Rayyan cooks Middle Eastern food and serves tea, and even stirs up Malaysian infused dishes hanging on to his one belief that “Food is hope”.

Now in a bid to fight the winter that’s coming, Rayyan has seeked for funding on GoGetFunding and even resorted to approaching his idol, Ellen DeGeneres.

"We don't have that much money nor resources to make our kitchen winter proof, we don't have high-end kitchen, but we have a strong resilient heart and passion to keep feeding people. We do have a container coming, food stock that allows us to feed up to 5000 people a day and that's it," Rayyan appealed on gogetfunding.com.

In a video posting on his Facebook page, Rayyan gets a little emotional as he pleads for Ellen’s help to winter-proof his shoreline kitchen.

“If you can help us, that’ll be so amazing because you always have something for everyone around the world.”

Rayyan’s kitchen is 50 meters away from the rough Aegean Sea which claims the lives of refugees regularly, especially lately with the winter weather, but the man with a bubbly personality, dressed in bright coloured clothing, with animal themed hats and mitts has not given up hope to bring food to the people.

As Malaysians, we’re very proud of Rayyan for his enthusiasm and passion displayed through food, and we hope his video which has garnered over 11,000 views has come to the attention of Ellen!

I hope you see this Ellen DeGeneres, because I love you and you are my inspiration! I need your help to winter-proof my kitchen here in Skala Skamnias. You are one of my inspirations to open #TheVolunteerCook kitchen in Greece responding to the #RefugeeCrisis! <3#BringEllenToLesvos #TheVolunteerCookOnEllenp/s: If she doesn't see this, you can always help here http://gogetfunding.com/urgent-appeal-lesvos-rayyan-needs-you-his-kitchen-needs-setting-up-for-winter/
