KUALA LUMPUR: Parts of the Shah Alam Stadium which was by damaged by heavy rain on Thursday will be repaired in time for the Sea Games next month.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the ministry has identified several panels of the roof that needed to be replaced.

"Today, the ministry and the Selangor state government will discuss on the scope of repairs.

"Even though the stadium is owned by Selangor, there must be some cooperation between them and the federal government as we know they are facing financial constraints," he told reporters during a TN50 Dialogue with Petronas' young professionals here today.

The stadium had parts of its roof blown off by strong wind following heavy rain during the friendly match between the Malaysian Under-22 team against Myanmar Under-22 on Thursday.

The incident forced the match to be suspended for several minutes.

As the stadium is the venue for upcoming Sea Games football matches, there were concerns that the damages would not be repaired in time.

"I have instructed repair works to be done as soon as possible. We have slightly over one month before the Games.

"I have approved the repairs, we are just getting the scope and procurement processes sorted out." he said adding that although not all roof panels would be replaced, it would still be safe for fans and players.
