Floods In Melaka: Flood Victims Dropped To 240 People

Pic: BernamaPic: BernamaMELAKA: The flood situation in Melaka is improving with the number of flood victims reduced to 240 people as at 5 pm today, from 311 people at noon.

Melaka Malaysian Civil Defence Force director Lt CKol (PA) Effendy Ali said the victims, from 60 families, were being accommodated at four flood evacuation centres in the Melaka Tengah, Jasin and Alor Gajah districts.

He said three other evacuation centres, namely Peringgit Community Hall, Paya Ikan Rural Transformation Centre and the Pengkalan Batu Community Hall, were closed at 2.15 pm today after the 71 flood victims, from 20 families, were allowed to return home.

There is no change in the number of flood victims at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Munsyi Abdullah in Batu Berendam (139 people from 35 families) and at Surau Bukit Baru (13 people from two families, he said in a statement here.

Effendy, who is also Melaka Disaster Management Committee Secretariat head, said there were also no change in the number of flood evacuees at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tehel in Jasin (71 people from 19 families) and Kampung Seri Jeram Community Hall, Alor Gajah (17 people from four families) .

"Although the flood situation in improving, a new flood evacuation centre was opened, but the number of evacuees involved has yet to be ascertained,” he said.
