40 Tons Of Electrical, Electronic Waste In Negeri Sembilan

SEREMBAN --The Negeri Sembilan Environmental Department collected 40 tons of electrical and electronic waste (e-waste) in a two-week campaign which began on Oct 9.

Its director Norhazni Mat Sari said the campaign which ends tomorrow involved collection of waste such as discarded refrigerators, computers, laptops, air-conditioners, televisions and mobile phones.

"We made the biggest haul yesterday. To date we have collected 40 tons of e-waste and we aim to reach our target of 60 tons tomorrow.

“This collection may be disposed off at the site licenced by the department,” he told reporters after launching an invention and innovation competition here today, in conjunction with National Environment Day.

The department organised the campaign with the cooperation of SWCorp Negeri Sembilan, SWM Enviroment Sdn Bhd, Petron Coporation, Cenviro Sdn Bhd, Shan Poonam Metals Sdn Bhd, 3R Quest Sdn Bhd and EGA Recycling Sdn Bhd.
