MACC Nabs Senior Civil Servant For Corruption Probe Involving Petroleum Engineering Company

Filepic: NSTPFilepic: NSTPJOHOR BARU: A senior Occupational Safety and Health department officer was held by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency for investigations into claims he asked and received money to allow a company install an equipment without permission.

The 37-year-old suspect, an assistant director with the department, was arrested at a hotel here at about 2.40pm according to a statement from the MACC.

Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest and that the suspect will be brought to court for a remand application this afternoon.

Investigations by the MACC showed the officer had asked and received RM30,000 from a project director of a petroleum engineering company.

The sum was an inducement to not take any action against the company for installing a “griphoist” without any permission from the department, according to the statement.

"Following the arrest, MACC raided the suspect's house where cash totaling RM18,505 that was found in one of the rooms and a space under the staircase. Several documents related to the project were also seized in the raid," it said.
