JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 10 -- Police detained a senior citizen for attempting to smuggle drugs into the lock-up room of the Kluang police station two days ago.

Kluang police chief ACP Mohamad Laham said the 60-year-old man came to the police station around 11am on the pretext of handing over a bag to his daughter who was held at the lock-up for a drug offence.

"Upon inspection of the bag, the policeman on duty found a packet of heroin weighing 13.98gm and 0.98 syabu worth RM1,500 hidden inside a power bank,” he said in a statement here today.

He said initial investigations revealed that the unemployed suspect who tested positive for drugs had a previous criminal record and placed under remand until Nov 15, for investigations under Section 39A of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Meanwhile, in another case, Mohamad said with the arrest of nine teenagers, seven male and two female, aged between 13 and 18, on Nov 7 and 8, police believe they have busted a motorcycle theft gang that was active in the city.

"All the suspects tested negative for drugs, but two of them had previous criminal records. Also seized were items worth RM4,000 which included a steel cutter, three motorcycles and various items used to dismantle motorcycles,” said Mohamad, adding that the suspects would be remanded for investigations.
