KUANTAN -- The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) is contemplating making an ideal body mass index (BMI) as one of the important elements to be considered for promotion among its staff and officers.

Its deputy director-general (Management) Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohamad said the matter was being discussed with the Public Service Department.

“We want to make sure that those who are eligible and qualified for promotion are healthy, fit and active. This will reflect the ability of our officers and staff to carry out their duties well,” he told a press conference after the closing ceremony of the 3K (Dashing, Fit and Healthy) Programme at Darul Makmur Stadium here today.

He said the MMEA was also mulling over the possibility to make Wednesday a compulsory day for MMEA staff to participate in recreational activities.

“Hundreds of thousands are spent on medical bills of the staff and officers each year. If we practise a healthy lifestyle, this expenses could be reduced,” he added.
