Puteri UMNO chief, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the sign language was provided so that the hearing-impaired could know the aspirations championed by UMNO and its wings all this while.

She said she was touched by the scene of several Puteri members bringing their young children along so as not to miss the assembly.

“This is how we Puteri UMNO members have struggled since 17 years ago, having to leave our families behind or to bring along our very young children to the assembly,” she told reporters after winding up her policy speech at the assembly.

In her speech, Mas Ermieyati stressed on the ‘T’ concept as a guideline for Puteri delegates and members in facing the upcoming 14th general election (GE14).

The four T’s involve meeting up with young Malay women to get them registered as voters; rejecting slander spread on social media; winning the hearts of voters, particularly first-time voters; and carrying on with the ‘Puteri Peduli’ (Puteri Cares) programme to get close to the people.

On the matter of candidates for the general election, Mas Ermieyati wants all Puteri UMNO members to be united and to leave the selection of candidates to the party’s top leadership.

“We sure want young candidates…more women candidates but GE14 is so crucial and Barisan Nasional must win. Hence, we leave it to the top leadership to select winnable, likeable, workable and capable candidates," she said.
